Arrived.

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

I arrived in London about two weeks ago (accompanied by Dan.) We spent the first week adjusting to the time change, trying many of the local pubs, and getting my studio set up. I live in a studio through student accommodations which is a nice balance because there is a built in community but I still have the privacy of living alone. I'm in Central London and only about a 20 minute walk from the LSE campus.

Dan left and went back to Wisconsin after a week. Not fun to have him leave but I knew Welcome Week would keep me busy and he'll be back in about a month for a visit. I wanted to participate in everything I could to get acquainted with the city and make some friends. Welcome Week was nothing short of exhausting. Lots of orientations, lots of socials, and lots of introductions that felt like reciting my resume as an elevator pitch.

I also had a Rotary Orientation last weekend via Zoom and instantly noticed a face I knew! Another Masters student living in my accommodation is also a Global Grant Scholar. We ended up attending a Rotaract event that evening together in London. The opportunities for community feel endless and I'm very grateful for that.

Classes started this week so I am adjusting to being back in school after a nearly 7 year gap (eekk!) I also joined a tennis group because the tennis court will be my happy place no matter where I live.

Enjoy some photos of the first few weeks:

A cute London street where I walked into someone's home thinking it was a shop. To be fair - the next door neighbor's was a shop and the doors were propped open. Opps!
